Washington’s Marijuana Law Initiative 502
The new law allows you to posses and smoke in your home for personal and medical reasons. However, it does not prevent businesses from terminating employees who test positive for marijuana use. Even with Initiative 502, LaborWorks’ drug and alcohol policy remain the same as before. While the new law precludes police officers from arresting individuals for possessing marijuana, it does not give any statutory right to use or possess marijuana in the workplace.
Not only is the use restricted under state law, the federal government does not agree that Washington’s newly passed marijuana law is legal under federal laws. LaborWorks will continue to have a “Zero Tolerance” policy regarding drugs and alcohol. Possessing, selling, consuming, or being under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs, including marijuana, while on LaborWorks premises or the job will result in termination. LaborWorks is committed to the health and safety of our employees and customers. Be smart, be safe!
